Started in Spring of 2024, I was entrusted to help push TNF’s category expansions with our first belt.

Coming from a background in apparel design, I had not had much experience in the realm of hard trim design.

The goal was to create a piece of hardware that could function both as a belt, as well a a bottle opener, all while maintaining a simple yet durable form that The North Face is known for.

As you can see, inital ideation was a bit off…

I liked this one in theory

but the form felt flimsy and not durable. Angles for angles sake. Not a lot of clear DNA or direction.
